So-called "humanities" (jobs that require knowledge in the field of humanities and thinking and sensitivity based on foreign culture, such as interpreting and translating native languages) are eligible for the "humanities specialist/international services" visa, so-called "science majors". ” (knowledge belonging to the field of natural sciences) was separated from the “technical” visa.

The distinction between liberal arts and science will be eliminated, and the visa will be unified into one comprehensive visa: "Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services."
From now on, when you are engaged in work where it is unclear whether you are classified as liberal arts or science, you will no longer need to hesitate or double check.　

Points to note when applying for an engineer/humanities specialist/international work visa

Here are some things to keep in mind when applying for applications that may span multiple years.

If you are inviting someone from overseas, you will need to apply using the new application form for "Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services" even if you are applying in March if your arrival in Japan is after April 4st.

If you are already residing in Japan (for example, an international student) and are applying for change of permission, you will need to apply using the new form if you apply after April 4st. Applications made during March are in the old format.
