●What is calling of relatives (parents) for specific activities?
I have obtained a residence status and am living in Japan, but my parents in my home country are elderly and there is no one to take care of them.

Normally, with the short-term stay status for visiting relatives, you can only stay in Japan for a maximum of 90 days.
It is not possible to live with peace of mind for a long period of time in a short stay.
In such a situation, there is a way to change to a visa called Specified Activities (residence status for supporting parents).
●Standards for obtaining a specific activity visa
If you are applying for a “designated activity” visa for the purpose of supporting your parents,
Whether certification is granted is at the discretion of the Minister of Justice.
Although there are no clear standards, the following cases are said to apply:
① The parents you are inviting are elderly (generally over 70 years old).
② There are no relatives in the home country to support the parents who are bringing them.
③ The foreign national you are trying to bring into Japan is an appropriate dependent.
④ The foreigner who wishes to support the child in Japan must be able to pay for the parent's living expenses.
If you meet these criteria,
There is a possibility that you will be granted the status of residence (visa) for "Designated Activities."
This is a long-term visa and can be renewed.
●Recognized activities
The activity that is recognized in Japan for those who receive support (parents) under "designated activities" is to receive support.
Please note that this is a status of residence (visa) for receiving dependents in Japan, so activities that involve income do not fall under "daily activities."
●Permitted period of stay
Residence status will be granted for a period of one year.
The Minister of Justice (Immigration Bureau) will determine each case.
