divorce and visa
Posted: May 2012, 5

This is a frequently asked question among women in Nagoya, especially those of Filipino nationality.
She is experiencing domestic violence from her Japanese husband.
They seek refuge in friends' homes or shelters.
We haven't lived together for a while.
I'm thinking of getting a divorce, but it looks like my visa (status of residence) is about to expire. Can I extend it?
Basically, if you don't live with your husband,
The basic principle is that the couple has no substance and must return home.
However, if you are proceeding with specific procedures such as divorce mediation,
I think there is room for extension.
Even in that case, you should return home once the divorce is finalized.
It will be the flow.
If you continue to live in Japan after divorce,
You need a strong reason to stay in Japan.
If you do not have children,
I think it is realistic that there is no reason for this.
(*This does not mean that it is OK if you have children.)

If you listen to the stories, there are many cases where people get married easily.
I understand that you want to live in Japan, but please be careful about that.
